Works of Faith exhibit 2006
Works of Faith is an art exhibit sponsored by First Presbyterian Church to encourage the expression of faith through visual media. This year's juror is Mark Woolley, owner of Mark Woolley Gallery in Portland's Pearl District and in the Wonder Ballroom on Russell Street in NE Portland.
The Works of Faith exhibition features artists of all faiths, including Jerilyn K. Adams' sculpture made of wood, metal, epoxy putty and asphaltum; Douglas Campbell's acrylic painting; Judith Monroe's mixed media photos and Richard James Woodman's intaglio prints from resin block depicting pastoral scenes and cathedrals. Many of the selected artists are first time entrants to the Exhibition.
Juror Mark Woolley will be awarding prizes totaling $1000 to artists in the show at the Sunday, November 5 opening reception. Mr. Woolley has curated over 300 shows in the last thirteen years. He earned his BA and MAT at Lewis and Clark College. He participated in a Fulbright summer in Japan with other teachers visiting schools and art centers and created an instructional video about the bombing of Hiroshima and its aftermath called "Forty Years and Counting." He enjoyed chairing the board at the Sisters of the Road Cafe and still regularly volunteers at Outside In, the Cascade Aids Project and other community focused groups. Of his current invitation, Woolley says "I'm honored to be asked and I'm looking forward to seeing visionary works by artists of all faiths, or faithful people exploring their spirituality."
The exhibition opens with an awards presentation and reception at 11:30 am on November 5, 2006 and runs through January 7, 2007 in the Chapel gallery. Call the church with questions or for exhibition hours.
