Works of Faith exhibit 2005 A reception with refreshments will welcome artists and art patrons to the opening of the Works of Faith Exhibition on Sunday, February 6, following worship. Awards totaling $1000 will be given to those artists selected by juror JulieAnne Poncet for special merit. Ms. Poncet will be giving a gallery talk about some of the pieces in the show, and she will present the awards. Among the pieces in this year's exhibit are two large sculptures, an icon, quilted art pieces, and oils and watercolors in abstract and realist style. The opening is an opportunity to meet the artists, talk to them about their work and consider buying one of the items. A portion of proceeds helps keep the Gallery going. Juror JulieAnne Poncet was born in Portland but spent most of her life in the Bay area. She received an AA degree in Fine Arts, followed by a BA degree in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MA in Art History from the University College, London, England. After a long absence from the Northwest, JulieAnne returned to Portland in 2002 and came on staff at the Portland Art Museum, where she works with the curators on current and upcoming exhibitions. In addition to her many responsibilities at the museum, JulieAnne teaches courses at Portland Community College in Art History and Introduction to Art. She balances the two jobs successfully, saying,"The integration of my work at the museum and my work as an educator seems to be a natural relationship, which allows me to create interesting curriculums that are not only educational, but are enhanced by the opportunity for my students to explore and experience art up close and personal at local galleries and through special exhibitions and the permanent collection at the Portland Art Museum." JulieAnne enjoys working with oil paints and has participated in several local art exhibitions and shows while living in San Francisco. The Works of Faith exhibition will be on view February 6-April 3, 2005.
