Sandy Keating art exhibit
Be sure to visit the Chapel Gallery before or after service to see Sandy Keating's colorful and imaginative works. Sandy Keating is, as she describes herself, a "fabric collage artist. My artwork tells a story. I build layers of mystery with a sensuous surface of color, textures, depth, and images. Each piece invites the viewer to draw on personal emotions and experiences to discover layers of meaning and metaphor."
Sandy studied fine art, graphic design, calligraphy, and writing at PSU and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1995. Her work has been included in numerous exhibits like the "Works of Faith" exhibit at FPC. She says, "I’m always looking for new ways to create texture and image in my work. My inkjet printer is one of my favorite tools. I can print directly on to fabric, or use various mediums to transfer the ink onto my artwork. My strong background in calligraphy gives me a vocabulary of shapes and gestures that I use to create layers of mysterious writing that is at once familiar and yet undecipherable. I use bleach pens to discharge dyes and I apply paint with various non-traditional tools like corrugated cardboard, feathers, and my fingers."
Sandy's show, "One Woman's Journey," will be on exhibit in Chapel Hall from September 11 to October 30. Viewing hours are Sundays from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm and weekdays by appointment. Many pieces in the exhibit are for sale, and 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross for relief of the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
