Loren Nelson photography exhibit

The works of Pacific Northwest photographer and past member of the Visual Arts Committee, Loren Nelson, were featured in the Chapel Gallery in November and December 2005. Loren's photographs capture the changing character of Washington County, the subtle fluctuations of sand and tide on the Oregon Coast, and the amazing seasonal transformations that occur in his garden. In pursuit of the extraordinary in the ordinary, Loren is drawn towards the essence of his subject matter, capturing a moment when the object, seen from a fresh perspective, becomes more than itself.

As a self-taught photographer living in Portland for the past 35 years, Loren developed an early interest in making color images of the landscape. In the 1970s, influenced by the work of Minor White and Wynn Bullock, he recognized the expressive power of the black and white print. Since that time, he has used color only in his commercial work.

Loren Nelson's photographs are in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum, IBM Corporation, Intel Corporation, E.R. Jackman Foundation for Oregon State University, and the Beaverton Arts Commission, among others. We welcome his works to the Chapel Gallery and encourage you to take this opportunity to observe and appreciate them. All photographs are for sale, with new works replacing ones that are sold.
