Stewardship at First Presbyterian Church

Christian education blessings

Stewardship 2008 We're all familiar with the saying "You're never too old to learn" and at First Presbyterian Church we take that saying literally! We have been blessed over the years to be able to offer many outstanding adult education classes at the 9 a.m. church school hour with subject areas ranging from biblical studies to theology to Christian ethics. Some 20 classes are offered each year and are taught by a faculty of over 20 instructors from FPC clergy and members, as well as other clergy and academics from local colleges. New in 2007 are classes offered at 8 a.m. for early birds and choir members. Occasionally, other classes or forums are offered after worship as well as at the weekly Wednesday Feast program, where topics have included "Zimbabwe Women Artists Program," "Parenting Logic," and "Debunking the Da Vinci Code."

Recent Sunday Adult Education classes have included topics ranging from "A Spiritual Journey through Genesis," "Isaiah: Luke's Script(ure)" and "The Johannine Community and the Origins of the Gospel" to "Demystifying the Dead Sea Scrolls," "The Problem and Mystery of Evil and Suffering" and coming in January 2008, "America at the Crossroads, Politics for the Discerning Presbyterian." Our church also has a number of ongoing study groups that meet weekly or bimonthly. For example, the weekly Sunday Lectionary class has been taught for a number of years by instructor Jim Milne. Our Adult Education Program is counting on our blessings, so please prayerfully and seriously consider pledging or increasing your pledge in 2008.
