Healthy Congregations
Dr. Tom Green and Rev. Anne Stewart Miller
Tom Green and Anne Stewart Miller will present three workshops on “Healthy Congregations,” based on the work of Lutheran pastor and church family systems consultant, Dr. Peter Steinke. Based on the concept of the congregation as an emotional system, Dr. Steinke’s work empowers congregations to be proactive in maintaining a healthy attitude and atmosphere with the relational body they share. Gaining a sense of how interaction effects and affects the body of Christ, checks and balances can be established in the congregational setting, enabling movement forward in mission and ministry. Come to learn more about these valuable insights into the functioning of congregations. |

Forgiveness: Setting the Prisoner Free
Rev. Robin Reed Garvin
Professor of Christian Ethics, Dr. Lewis Smedes, once made this observation about forgiveness: “When we forgive, we set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner we set free is us.” As Christians, we know that we are supposed to forgive, but we also know that forgiveness is hard work! During this four-session class we will discuss what forgiveness is and what it is not, what the Bible has to say about forgiveness, and forgiveness as a process that rarely happens instantaneously. Robin and her family recently relocated from Spokane where she served two congregations and taught part-time in the Religion Department at Whitworth College. |
