Vagabond Opera slated to open Concert Series

Vagabond Opera Celebration Works recital series gets under way on Sunday, October 24, with a concert by Vagabond Opera, a Portland-based group that plays multi-ethnic, operatic songs with a cabaret flair, according to The Oregonian. The performers include composer and band leader Eric Stern singing operatic tenor and playing the accordion; Evald Von Kuske on cello; Robin Jackson on saxophone; Jason Flores on bass; and Jay Harris on percussion. The group has a repertoire that ranges from Yiddish theater songs to Arabic classics to original tunes about Portland. Vagabond Opera is the only band in Portland that sings in both Yiddish and Arabic, a real testament to music's unifying power. Don't miss this unique opening concert.

Vagabond Opera performs on Sunday, October 24, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. Seating is limited. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and are on sale in Geneva Hall on Sundays after worship.
