 Alder Street Chamber Players

This group gathers to play trio sonatas and other works. This group regularly consists of flutes, oboe, bassoon, recorders and keyboard. At times, various string players join in. The coordinator of this group is Kathryn Hill or Renaté Kreutzer. Rehearsals are held on Thursdays at the homes of the ensemble members.

Alder Street Woodwind Quintet

This quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn) sometimes plays works for other combinations of woodwind instruments or adds instruments for larger ensemble works. The coordinator of this group is Ann van Bever.

Brass Ensemble

This group (two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba) meets occasionally to play at Palm Sunday, Easter and Christmas worship services as well as other services and events throughout the year. The coordinator for this group is Randy Iles.

Chamber Orchestra

At First Church, one of the music program's goals is to develop a regular in-house chamber orchestra that would integrate all of the instrumental musicians who are members of the church, supplemented by other instrumentalists who are looking for an outlet for their talents. This group would play in the Sunday morning worship service at times, form the heart of any hired orchestra that accompanies the Chancel Choir and provide a wonderful opportunity for fellowship among those who enjoy playing beautiful music together.

Currently, some of the members of the various instrumental ensembles combine to form an orchestra, augmented with hired professionals. The orchestra forms to assist the Chancel Choir in performing works from the cantata and oratorio tradition. The Chancel Choir has presented the Durufle Requiem, Bach Cantatas No. 4, 61, 62, 68 and 140, Mozart Requiem, Schubert Mass in E-flat and Haydn Lord Nelson Mass and Little Organ Mass with full orchestral accompaniment. For more information, contact Ann van Bever.

Handbells

The tradition of excellent music at FPC includes a fine English Handbell ensemble. From old-time hymns and established standards to creative new handbell works, the choir enjoys the challenge of music making designed to incorporate the talents of both experienced and novice ringers. The leaders for this group are Jon Stuber and Sandy Castles. The Handbells rehearse every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 PM and perform during worship on Sundays once per month.
