James Higdon to play organ recital on October 16

Dr. James Higdon, Professor of Organ, UKansas First Presbyterian's concert series, Celebration Works, presents James Higdon, Professor of Organ at the University of Kansas, in a recital of organ music on Sunday, October 16, at 3 p.m. Dr. Higdon will play the 69-rank Jaeckel pipe organ in a program co-sponsored by Jaeckel Pipe Organ Builders. Higdon has played concert tours both in the US and Europe and has recorded a significant amount of the French organ repertoire. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College, a Master of Music from Northwestern University and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Eastman School of Music. He did post-graduate organ studies in France with famed organist Marie-Claire Alain. The University of Kansas presented him with a W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence in the 1997-98 academic year. He was the first UK professor from the arts to be recognized with this prestigious award. He has had five students win Fulbright Awards during his tenure at UK.
