Celebrate Christmas with Encore Women's Vocal Ensemble and Celebration Works

Encore Women's Vocal Ensemble in Chapel Hall, May 2004 You won't want to miss Encore Women's Vocal Ensemble in a concert of holiday music entitled Bells Ringing, Angels Winging on Sunday, December 12, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and may be purchased on Sundays after worship in Geneva Hall or at the door on the day of the concert. The concert is part of our Celebration Works series.

Angels and bells are familiar Christmas images, and they are reflected in Encore's program, which features several unique works. The program opens with a joyful "Gaudete!" arranged by Michael Neaum and continues with the first movement of Oregon composer Lana Walter's Magnificat and Lloyd Pfautschs "Annunciation," a setting of Luke 1: 28-31. The angels' message to the shepherds is the central theme of these pieces, which provide beautiful close harmony that showcases the special quality of women's voices.

Also on the program are songs celebrating bells, including an arrangement of "Jingle Bells" by John Ness Beck, a new take on the traditional Russian melody of "Carol of the Bells" by prolific arranger Kirby Shaw, and "Ding Dong! Merrily on High," arranged by Andrew Carter. The program concludes with a song that has become a tradition for Encore, the lovely "Peace, Peace" by Rick and Sylvia Powell.

Encore singers Melody Helenius and Jean Mittelstaedt, who also sing with FPC's Chancel Choir, are excited to bring Encore's music to the Chapel and extend to all members and friends a warm invitation to ring in the Christmas season with Encore Women's Vocal Ensemble.
