DjinnJenn to perform April 10

Jenny Lindner, harpist On Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m., the harp duo of Jennifer Craig and Jenny Lindner will play a recital on the Celebration Works series. The duo is known as DjinnJenn, a play on their names combined with djinn, mythical spirits who hold supernatural powers over humans and animals. The harp is an instrument that can easily enchant the listener with its ethereal beauty and grand size. Two harps should be twice as enchanting!

DjinnJenn will play music ranging from the classics to cutting-edge contemporary. Included in the program will be a piece by Johann Baptiste Krumpholz (1742?-1790) who is known for his innovations in improving the harp as a machine. The piece to be performed, Premiere Duo pour Deux Harpes, is like a giant music box with attitude! The duo also will play a transcription of a piano four-hands piece based on 12 French nursery rhymes, called La Nursery, by Desire-Emile Inghelbrecht (1880-1965). Following intermission, the harpists will perform a transcription of a work for organ: Prelude, Fugue, Variation, Op. 18, by Cesar Franck (1822-1890), which has been described as simply exquisite. Four lovely tunes from South Pacific by Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) will show off the ability of the harp to play in a popular style. The concert will close with a work entitled Parvis by Bernard Andres (b. 1941), which evokes the court area in front of a temple. Andres is known for beautifully combining classical themes with contemporary sound effects and rhythms.

The concert will be in the Chapel, so seating is limited. Tickets are sold at the door and are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors.
