Tessa Brinckman and Ensemble East West

Ensemble East West The 3 p.m. September 10 opener for Celebration Works presents Tessa Brinckman and Ensemble East West. The ensemble returns with an exciting new program titled "Global Voyages for Six, 2006." This program, spotlighting six members of Ensemble East West with flute, violin, viola, cello, harp and koto, promises an exhilarating and interesting musical journey. "Global Voyages for Six, 2006" features Marjorie Rusche's work Arctic Voyager for flute, string trio and koto, a four-movement musical narrative of an Alaskan journey; Portland jazz pianist and composer Gordon Lee's new arrangement of Native American jazz composer Jim Pepper's Witchi-Tai-To for flute, string trio and koto; and Bongani Ndodana-Breen's trio, Apologia at Umzimvubu, commissioned by South African Music Rights Organization for Ensemble East West and inspired by black South African Xhosa dance culture and an Eastern Cape river. Also programmed are Albert Roussel's Serenade op. 30 for flute, violin, viola, cello and harp and Astor Piazzolla's Libertango, arranged by San Francisco Bay area composer Mark Fish. Tickets to the concert are sold at the door: Adults $10, Students/Seniors $5. Parking will be validated.
