Belle Voci to sing on Celebration Works Series, February 3

Belle Voci Women's Chorus Portland's premier women's chorus, Belle Voci, will perform in the Sanctuary here at First Presbyterian on Friday, February 3, at 8 p.m. as part of the Celebration Works series of concerts. Margaret Green, a former section leader and assistant director of our Chancel Choir, is the conductor of this select women's chorus. Joining the women of Belle Voci will be the young singers who are participating in this year's Treble Choir Workshop, an annual event, which highlights some of the most outstanding treble choruses in the area. Participating choirs include the Women's Ensemble from Reynolds High School, Karen Bohart, director; the Vivo Choir from Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choirs, Kris van Auken, director; and the Chantez Advanced Girls Choir from Sunrise Middle School, Erika Lockwood, director.

Tim Fitzpatrick, Western Washington University This is the Second Annual Treble Choir Workshop and Concert sponsored by Belle Voci. The concert provides a unique opportunity to hear from some of the youth choirs in our area but also to witness the joy of singing from 6th grade through adults. Each choir will prepare and perform music that showcases their unique sound and skills and then all of the choirs will combine to close the concert and sing under the direction of guest conductor and workshop leader, Tim Fitzpatrick. For the combined choirs, he has selected a setting of Psalm 121 by Canadian composer Imant Raminsh and "Take a Step" by Stephen Hatfield. Tim Fitzpatrick is on the faculty of Western Washington University at Bellingham, Washington, where he directs several ensembles and teaches choral conducting. He is also the artistic director of the Bellingham Chamber Chorale.

Belle Voci will also be featured on the concert performing "Let All the World in Every Corner Sing" by Sven Lekberg, "Maggie and Millie and Molly and Mae" set by Portland composer Joan Szymko, and "I Am Not Yours," a brand-new composition by New Zealand composer David Childs. Those who attended last year's first Treble Choir Workshop and Concert can attest that the singing was truly inspirational.
