Alder Street Winds closes 2003-04 Recital Series on Sunday, June 13

Don't miss the last recital in the Celebration Works series on Sunday, June 13, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. First Presbyterian's resident wind ensemble, the Alder Street Woodwind Sextet, will present a varied musical program including works by Puccini, Rimsky-Korsakov, D'Rivera and Francaix. Tickets are sold in advance on Sundays after worship in Geneva Hall next to the HOME Center or at the door on the day of the concert. Ticket prices are reasonable: adults $10; students/seniors $5.

The program will feature an arrangement of the hauntingly beautiful Chrysanthemums by opera composer Giacomo Puccini; a rollicking and good-natured Sextet for Piano and Winds by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov; a jazzy Latin-rhythm piece called Aires Tropicales by Cuban composer Paquito D'Rivera, and a portrait of a Parisian brasserie, the saucy L'Heure D'Berger (The Shepherd s Hour), by Jean Francaix. The Alder Street Woodwind Sextet includes flutist Janet Bebb, oboist Ann van Bever, clarinetist Nanita McIlhattan, bassoonist Boyd Osgood, hornist Karen Bjorge and pianist Maria Choban. The group has played several times on our concert series, as well as during worship services and at Lake Grove Presbyterian, St. Gabriel's Episcopal and Terwilliger Plaza.
